A letter has been emailed to the parents of students in the (Middle School) String Ensemble, with details of the String Ensemble Workshop, as follows:
MIDDLE SCHOOL: STRING ENSEMBLE
Ensemble Skills Workshop: Saturday 12 May, 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
The String Ensemble’s annual Workshop, as listed in the MARC Calendar of Events, will be held in the G7 rehearsal space at the College on Saturday 12 May. It will be an opportunity to work on the skills of listening and playing together, and of developing tone, phrasing and style, so as to play accurately, sensitively and musically.
Under Ms Averi’s direction, the group will work on new ensemble pieces, concentrating on the musicianship and ensemble aspects of the pieces. In addition, the group will divide into smaller chamber groups, each of which in turn will workshop a short piece, while the others watch and listen.
At 1:30 pm the parents are invited to join the students, to conclude the day with an informal forum presentation of the pieces and skills that have been workshopped during the session, followed by the much-anticipated ‘Stringies Awards’.
Please note that attendance is required for the entire workshop, as the day includes a mix of activities that require all members to participate.

Workshop starts: 9:00 am (please arrive punctually; we will begin at 9am sharp)
Forum presentation to parents: 1:30 pm
Workshop concludes: 2:00 pm
Dress: Casual (free dress code: please wear soft-soled shoes to respect the wooden floor surface in G7)
What to bring: Students should bring their own morning tea, lunch and drinks
According to your signed permission slip for the year’s Performance Music events, you have given your consent for your child to attend this event. Please refer to “Approved Leave” in the Terms and Conditions of your Ensemble Agreement. Absence from a MARC Calendar event can only be approved in very exceptional circumstances, and notice in writing must be given to the Performance Music Department as far as possible in advance of the event.
